In its prototype redesign, Sega GameWorks LLC (Glendale, Calif.) has replaced the dark aesthetics of a typical arcade, with a bright new design befitting the entertainment destination. While interactive video games are still the focus, a billiard room, restaurant, VIP lounge and two bars add a variety of activities, each highlighted by state-of-the-art lighting by Moody Ravitz Hollingsworth Lighting Design Inc. (Van Nuys, Calif.).

Designer distinguished zones using colored light and 80 types of fixtures. For instance, the billiard hall has traditional fixtures and the restaurant sconces vary from those found in the entryway. Beyond decorative fixtures, dramatic lighting and pattern projectors overlay large areas. And automated lighting is activated throughout the building several times a night to emphasize multi-player game “challenges,” which are featured on live feed video.
