Starbucks Adds Own Juice, Snacks

Will roll out products in partnership with Whole Foods

Starbucks Corp. (Seattle) will be rolling out its Evolution Fresh juice and a new line of snack bars called Evolution Harvest, through a partnership with Whole Foods Market Inc. (Austin, Texas).

By the end of the year, Starbucks said, it expects Evolution Fresh to be in about 8000 U.S. cafes and grocery stores. Both products are currently sold at Whole Foods stores and about 4500 of Starbucks’ outlets in the U.S.

Whole Foods will begin stocking the juices and snack bars next week. The snack line will eventually expand to include trail mixes, freeze-dried fruit and fruit snacks. Starbucks will start selling the snacks in its cafes this fall.

Starbucks, which has been working to diversify its coffee business by offering more packaged products and food, acquired Evolution Fresh (San Bernardino, Calif.) in 2011 for $30 million.

The products will replace Naked Juice by PepsiCo Inc. (Purchase, N.Y.) and Kind snack bars by Kind LLC (New York) in Starbucks cafes.
