Polo Assn. wins latest (and perhaps last) court battle with Polo Ralph Lauren over use of the polo logo

The United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit has ruled in favor of the U.S. Polo Assn. and against Polo Ralph Lauren Corp. (New York), evidently making the final determination in the long-running battle over the use of a polo player as a logo.

The two parties have been in litigation for more than 20 years over who has superior rights to use the image.

David Cummings, president and ceo of USPA Properties Inc. (West Palm Beach, Fla.), a subsidiary of the association, told the Daily News Record that the decision is “another victory” and it should be the “final chapter in a very long book.” Polo Ralph Lauren did not return DNR’s calls for comment.
