Tanzore Restaurant & Lounge, Beverly Hills, Calif.

Beverly Hills’ Restaurant Row on La Cienega Boulevard boasts some of the hottest dining spots in the city. And after 10 years at that famed address with the same look, Indian eatery Tanzore has re-emerged as an upscale venue that speaks to a more stylish and contemporary clientele.

Bold colors dominate the space, adorning walls and defining the various dining zones that were added during the renovation – cool blue hues denote the bar area while dining sections are stained deep crimson and purple against dark wood.

“Bright colors are fundamental to Indian culture,” says Sat Garg, design principal for AkarStudios (Santa Monica, Calif.). “We combined those colors with a reinterpreted Indian graphic to better define the walls and bring in touches of culture.”

To give the more traditional materials a modern twist, elements like polished white stone, linear architecture and a geometric take on the customary Indian lamp shade were introduced.

Along the walls, granite basins channel water and provide a soothing contrast to the outside street noise.
