The Newer Side of Sears

Sears will be opening 13 pilot stores tomorrow – in Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Milwaukee – featuring wider aisles, brighter lighting and shopping carts. The remodeled stores will also feature an “At Your Service” customer support desk. Some of the individual locations are also testing wall-mounted customer-assistance pagers and scanners, to answer product and pricing questions, and a computer center – called Screenz@Sears – where consumers can check e-mail, fax materials and print digital photos. An in-store cafŽ called CafŽ Roebuck, is also featured in several locations.
