Tiles Are Forever

Flooring is garnering attention in Hollywood – and we don’t mean the red carpet. Amtico Intl., the Atlanta-based designer and manufacturer of resilient flooring, makes a cameo in the new James Bond film, “Quantum of Solace,” which hit the big screen last month.

The company’s inlaid tile starburst pattern flooring is the backdrop for a fight scene during which actor Daniel Craig (the current Bond) rappels from the ceiling of an Italian Art Gallery. Production company Pinewood Studios says it chose the flooring because it resembled an aged marble floor and would also withstand the abuse of heavy filming equipment. Amtico provided 1200 square feet of the product for the scene.

“The floor was pre-laid onto baseboards, then laid in segments over the course of a day,” says Chris Lowe, the supervising art director for the Bond film. “It lasted the duration of the shoot and stood up remarkably well.”
