Walmart (Bentonville, Ark.) has introduced a new concept in some of its New Jersey stores to drive online orders.
In three stores located in Garfield, Saddle Brook and Secaucus, New Jersey, the retailer has installed bright orange pickup lockers that will house customers’ packages from online shopping. It is a “ship to store locker” option that Wal-Mart is providing, and once a package is available for pickup, customers will be emailed a code number that opens that specific in-store lockbox, each of which is equipped with an ATM-like touch screen, reports The Record.
The concept is meant to make picking up orders faster, allowing customers to bypass lines or locate store employees, and also appeals to customers who aren’t able to have packages delivered to their residences or don’t want them left on their doorstep or apartment lobby.
