Walmart Moves to Make Hourly Employees Full Time

In an attempt to retain retail workers, Walmart (Bentonville, Ark.) announced plans to transition two-thirds of its current, U.S. hourly in-store workforce to full-time employees by the end of the fiscal year, which usually ends in January for the retailer.

After the transition, the mass merchant will have roughly 100,000 more employees working full-time than it did five years ago, Reuters reports. Currently Walmart employs about 1.6 million people in the U.S.

Due to the growing popularity of delivery and pick-up services because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Walmart says it has had to create more full-time positions in order to fulfill their needed in-store roles.
