Walmart Stores Inc. (Bentonville, Ark.) has named Doug McMillon president and ceo of Walmart Intl., the retailer’s second-largest operating segment and its fastest-growing division. McMillon will succeed Michael Duke, who was chosen last November to succeed H. Lee Scott, Walmart’s retiring president and ceo.

Both executives take their new positions on Feb. 1, 2009.

McMillon is currently president and ceo of Sam’s Club. He began his Walmart career 18 years ago unloading trucks at a distribution center while in college. The company said his successor as president and ceo of Sam's Club will be named at a later date.

Walmart Intl. accounts for approximately 25 percent of the company's revenue. Through the 43-week period ending Nov. 28, 2008, international sales were more than $80.6 billion. The division operates more than 3300 stores under more than 50 banners in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Japan, Mexico, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico and the U.K. and, through a joint venture, in India.
