Wayne Takeuchi Dies in California

Wayne Takeuchi, the former president and ceo of Chaix & Johnson, Los Angeles-based architecture firm, died at his home in Danville, Calif., following a long illness. He was 72.

After graduating from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Calif., Takeuchi began his career in the automotive design department of General Motors. After moving back to California, Takeuchi joined Chaix & Johnson, eventually becoming president and ceo. He was instrumental in the firm’s work with Broadway Stores of Los Angeles, Isetan in Tokyo, Central Department Stores in Thailand and Liverpool Department Stores in Mexico.

After leaving Chaix & Johnson, Takeuchi was president of Excel Consultants Inc., specializing in retail development projects in Asia. In 2003, he became chairman of Bedrock Brand Consultants, a brand strategy and environmental brand consulting firm.
