Target Improving its Grocery Department

Creating a dedicated grocery team

Published

on

Target (Minneapolis) is changing the way it is running the grocery departments inside its stores. With these changes, associates who work in the grocery department will not be able to work in other areas of the stores and the grocery department will have a dedicated team of 10 to 60 employees, depending on the store. These associates will also receive specialized training.

These changes have been implemented in about 450 stores so far and the company plans to continue to introduce them to others.

These moves are part of the company’s efforts to improve food sales, which have been declining and which account for about 20 percent of its revenue. The company hopes to turn Target into a destination for grocery purchases, so it is also planning to increase grocery promotions and marketing efforts, reports The Wall Street Journal.
