Add Todd Oldham's name to the growing list of designers aligning with Target Stores (Minneapolis). The mass-merchant discounter announced that the fashion designer will create an exclusive collection of merchandise for the home available in the more than 1000 Target stores nationwide in 2002.

Target did not indicate how the goods would be merchandised in-store.

Oldham is well-known for the prints and colors of his couture designs. Target says his new home line for them “will epitomize Oldham's light-hearted yet bold approach to design.”

In the last couple of years, Target has collaborated with fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli on a line of apparel, with architect Michael Graves on a line of home merchandise and with celebrity makeup artist Sonia Kashuk on a line of professional cosmetics. Also, designer Philippe Starck will introduce an exclusive line of products in 2002.

“Target and I have very similar views about what's important in design,” said Oldham. “We both believe that consumers crave design that's smart and interesting, while at the same time is accessible and affordable.”

Although mostly known for his avant-garde, eclectic fashion collections for both men and women, the designer has also designed for the masses. In 1995, he released a Todd Oldham Jeans line of denimwear for men and women.
