The Home Depot (Atlanta) opened a 115,000 square-foot store at Denver's Quebec Square. It is the first store to be opened at the new property, the site of Denver's old Stapleton Airport, being developed by Forest City Enterprises (Cleveland).

Quebec Square is a 740,000-square-foot regional retail center that will be part of more than 3 million square feet of retail space at Stapleton. Forest City is the master developer of and will have a significant ownership interest in the 4,700-acre former airport property, which will also include 12,000 homes and apartments and 10 million square feet of office space. The project was recently given the Stockholm Partnership for Sustainable Cities Award in recognition of its “commitment to sustainable development, community-building and environmental stewardship.”

Home Depot's new warehouse center, encompassing the retailer's latest merchandising and design elements, will be one of the anchor tenants of the development, along with a Super Wal-Mart and Sam's Club, which are scheduled to open later this summer. Other retailers opening in coming months include Just For Feet, Borders Books, Office Depot and Linens N'Things.

Forest City Enterprises, a $4.5 billion real estate company that engages in the ownership, development, acquisition and management of commercial and residential real estate throughout the United States, is said to be next targeting properties in Boston, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, Richmond, Va., San Francisco and Washington, D. C.
