10 Corso Como Debuts 1st US Store

CEO stands by New York Seaport District location

On Thursday, Milan-based luxury department store retailer 10 Corso Como will enter the U.S. market in Manhattan’s Seaport District, and its CEO says the entry will reshape the city’s retail scene. The expansive 28,000-square-foot store at 1 Fulton Street has been highly anticipated since it was first announced earlier this year.

The choice of neighborhood was unexpected, but CEO Carla Sozzani told Vogue that the risk was one she felt confident in based on past experience. “Everyone thought when I opened in Milano, 28 years ago, that it was in a crazy neighborhood, too.” Despite the surprising location for a luxury brand, Sozzani insists shoppers will make their way to the touristy East River location. “They will come! It will be a destination! I love that this area is so historical, and so near the water – I don’t think there is another place in New York I like better,” she said.

The retailer already has outposts in Seoul, Beijing and Shanghai, in addition to its Milan home base, and while it doesn’t specifically select different items for the stores, the New York store will have select exclusive items for sale, including a bespoke MM6 coat, a special T-shirt from Stella McCartney and a vintage-style bag from History by Dylan.
