Hudson’s Bay Expanding to Europe

Opening up to 20 stores in the Netherlands

Hudson’s Bay Co. (Toronto) announced that it is expanding its operations in Europe and will open up to 20 stores in the Netherlands over the next two years.

The move comes in the wake of the bankruptcy of the V&D (Amsterdam, Netherlands) department store, and Hudson’s Bay will remodel and occupy some of the department store’s previous locations. Seventeen locations will operate as stand-alone HBC stores and three others will operate as Saks Off 5th stores. The stores are expected to open next summer.

This marks the first time the company will open a Hudson’s Bay outside of Canada, where it was first started in 1670 as a fur trading company, reports Huffington Post.
