First Google In-Store Shop Opens

Launches in London electronics store

Google (Mountain View, Calif.) has opened its first branded retail shop, according to The Telegraph. Located in London’s Currys PC World electronics store, the Google shop will merchandise the company’s devices, including a line of Android phones and tablets, Chromebook laptops and Chromecast TV services. Staff members will host tutorials for consumers, teaching them how to use Google’s devices and apps.

The Currys PC World in-store shop is Google’s first physical presence bearing the Google name. In 2011, Google opened a “Chromezone” store, also in London. Electronics retailer Dixons, which owns Currys PC World, opened subsequent Chromezones across the U.K. Google has also opened “Androidland” in shops in Australia.

The store-within-a-store will also host events geared toward children and educators, including “Virtual Space Camps” to teach children the basics of coding, and open houses for teachers to demostrate Google’s educational tools and products.
