Furniture retailer Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams (Taylorsville, N.C.) will open eight new stores this year. The company was acquired last month from Wafra Partners (New York) by Stephens Group (Little Rock, Ark.).

Co-founders Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams launched the company in 1989 and sold it in 1998 to Rowe Cos. (McLean, Va.). In 2003, Gold, Williams, and Wafra Partners bought back Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams for $46 million, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The company’s pieces have famously been used in the 2012 decoration of the White House and on the sets of television shows “Friends” and “The Good Wife.” Last year, the company opened seven new stores. Gold and Williams will continue in their roles as chair and ceo, and president of design, respectively.
