Target Corp. (Minneapolis) has acquired Phillip Lim as its newest guest designer and collaborator, The Wall Street Journal reports. Lim’s lines for men and women, as well as accessories, will be available for a short time in September 2013.

Lim founded his label, 3.1 Phillip Lim, in 2005 and was reportedly on Target’s “wish list” for several years. According to WSJ, Lim was hesitant to partner with Target until his brand started to gain more traction internationally and finally agreed to the collaboration last fall.

Other retailers are following similar paths, such as H&M’s (Stockholm, Sweden) collaboration with Versace and Narciso Rodriguez working with Kohl’s (Menomonee Falls, Wis.). Even Gap (San Francisco) now sells a collection for children by Diane von Furstenberg, WSJ reports.
