Europe's Autumn Window Displays

Fashion turns to thoughts of fall. European window displays give shoppers a glimpse of the season’s trends.

Milan, home to some of Europe’s leading fashion boutiques, is always one of the first cities to introduce the fall season’s new looks, picking up the trends from the June fashion shows.

This year’s look: elegant, luxurious materials and dark colors. Metallic surfaces reflect the textile structures and repeat them on a larger scale as background scenery. But the serious, somber tones are given vitality by colored lights in pink, green or purple. Burberry’s store in Milan presented opulent decorations and propping to complement the latest outerwear.

In Parisian windows, it’s all about unconventional style and unusual and creative merchandise presentations at the leading fashion houses, boutiques and department stores. Alber Elbaz, the designer and head of visuals at the House of Lanvin, used no classical mannequins or decorations in his windows – just a few pieces of furniture in unusual sizes, an artistic attraction for all as the days grow shorter.
