Family Dollar reports 109 store openings in August

Family Dollar Stores Inc. (Matthews, N.C.) has reported opening 109 stores during the four-week period ended Aug. 28, 2004. The company now operates 5466 stores in 44 states.

The 109 newest store locations are in the following states: 23 in Texas; 10 in Michigan; 8 in Ohio, 6 in Wisconsin, 5 each in Arizona, North Carolina and Tennessee; 4 each in Georgia, Illinois, Indiana and Pennsylvania; 3 each in Florida, Kentucky and Utah; 2 each in Alabama, Colorado, Maine, Minnesota, New York and Virginia; and 1 each in Arkansas, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, Oklahoma and South Carolina.

During its fiscal year ended August 28, the company opened 500 stores and closed 61. As previously announced, Family Dollar plans to open about 500 to 560 stores and close 60 to 70 stores during the fiscal year ending Aug. 27, 2005.
