J. Peterman to debut new line of furniture

Published

on

John Peterman, whose catalog and retail business went bankrupt in 1999, has signed a licensing agreement with furniture manufacturer Jeffco (White Plains, N.Y.) to launch a furniture collection. It will debut in fall 2003.

Peterman became a pop icon when he was parodied on the Seinfeld television show in the 1990s, but he declared bankruptcy in 1999, the year after the show went off the air. The J. Peterman Co. was bought out of bankruptcy by Paul Harris Stores (Indianapolis), which then fired Peterman and itself was forced into bankruptcy in 2001.
