Federated shuts its San Francisco planning and construction department

Federated Department Stores Inc. has announced that its San Francisco SPACE (Store Planning, Architecture, Construction and Engineering) department has closed. The division, which was based in the Macy's West office, will now operate out of the Federated corporate office in Cincinnati. The SPACE team is responsible for the design, construction and remodeling of Federated's department stores.

It has been just about a year since Federated announced it was centralizing and enlarging the store planning function in its Cincinnati corporate office and closing its New York office. At the time, it reduced its San Francisco office to six people, retaining construction, design and planning functions.
