Warner Bros. bids Fifth Avenue adieu

Published

on

Warner Bros. – largely credited for helping democratize one of New York's most posh shopping districts – will close its flagship store on 57th Street and Fifth Avenue in January.

Warner's reset the tone for the neighborhood when it opened its four-story story seven years ago (It added three more floors a few years later), other novelty stores/destinations like The NBA Store and Disney Store and NikeTown, plus The Gap followed. The store – with its glass elevator seemingly propelled by “The Man of Steel” – is also said to be one of the major trendsetters for entertainment retail design.

But are consumers tiring of retail entertainment? Warner Bros. isn't saying anything about its sales, and will maintain operations at two other Manhattan locations, including the newer, larger one situated in Times Square.
