Callison names principals; Gensler relocates; Echeverria Design Group to help Federated renovate Bur

Management Changes:

Callison Architecture Inc. (Seattle architecture and design firm) has promoted the following senior staff members to principal: Tom Bowen, Steve Harmon and Ro Shroff. Also, John Cochran has been named director of technical services.

LS3P Associates Ltd. (Charleston, S.C., architecture, interior design and land planning firm) has named Barbara Milan Price principal. In addition, the following have been named associate principals of the Charleston office: Richard Gowe, Willie Murphy, Becky Smith and Brian Wurst. New associate principals at the Charlotte, N.C. office are: Scott Baker, Pat Campbell, Steve Meyer and Margaret Lowder.

Westcrowns Inc. (Shallotte, N.C., distributor of Pilkington Profilit Channel Glass System) has hired Jim Schiltz as national sales manager, Midwest division, and Peter Alberini, national sales manager, Eastern division. Schiltz and Alberini will be responsible for managing a network of sales representatives in their areas and coordinating supply and installation of products.

Berkshire Hathaway (Omaha, Neb., holding company) has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Burlington Industries Inc. (Greensboro, N.C., manufacturer and marketer of softgoods for apparel and interior furnishings). Burlington entered into Chapter 11 reorganization in 2001. Under the agreement, Burlington will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway.

Gensler (San Francisco architecture, design and planning firm) to 2 Harrison St., Ste. 400, San Francisco, CA 94105. The company's phone number remains the same.

Business Briefs:

Federated Department Stores (Cincinnati department store operator) has commissioned The Echeverria Design Group (Coral Gables, Fla., retail design firm) for the architectural planning, interior design and documentation services for the renovation of its Burdines apparel and home stores at Dadeland Mall in Miami. The project will begin this spring, with completion expected by fall 2004.

Middleton Graphics (Markham, Ontario, Canada, graphics printer) has added an Inca Digital Eagle 44 to its equipment for short-run work.

Hornall Anderson Design Works (HADW, Seattle branding and on-line design firm) has created brand-positioning materials, targeting namely business travelers, for the San Francisco Marriott, which is undergoing a renovation.

Country Club Designs, Knickers Inc.'s (Delray Beach, Fla., design firm) principal Jane Baxter has been commissioned for the interior design of the new Royal Palm Country Club (Boca Raton, Fla.).

Awards & Competitions:

Armstrong World Industries (Lancaster, Pa., ceilings, floors and cabinets designer and manufacturer) was awarded a 2002 ACE Award — Architects'Choice for Excellence from Architecture magazine. The award ranked Armstrong number one in the Best Ceiling System Manufacturer category.

Graphic Imaging Inc. (Baltimore prepress, graphic design and printing company) was honored by the Printing and Imaging Industries of Maryland at its Print Quality Awards ceremony. The company won awards for Best of Category for Digital Printing and Special Judges Award for Outstanding Use of New Technology.
