Walgreens Seeks Buyer for 650 Stores

CVS explores option to purchase some

Walgreens (Deerfield, Ill.) is seeking a buyer for 650 of its stores that it needs to sell in order for its acquisition with Rite Aid (Camp Hill, Pa.) to go through. According to the New York Post, however, sources say that it is having trouble finding buyers for these locations.

While the company would like to sell the stores to one buyer, CVS (Woonsocket, R.I.) has reportedly shown interest in buying some of the stores in areas where they are not already operating. The two companies have met jointly with the Federal Trade Commission to discuss that option. No details were available about whether the FTC would allow that transaction to happen.
