Retailer shows 1 percent same-store sales gain for month

Limited Brands (Columbus, Ohio) reported a same-store sales increase of 1 percent for the four weeks ended Aug. 31, 2002. Net sales jumped 5 percent.

Year to date, for the 30 weeks ending August 31, same-store sales were up 4 percent.

Among its individual retail brands, Limited Stores'same-store sales were up 17 percent in August, 12 percent year-to-date; Victoria's Secret Stores were up 3 percent in August, 6 percent year-to-date; Lerner New York (recently re-named New York & Co.) was unchanged for August, up 4 percent year-to-date; Bath & Body Works was down 3 percent for August, down 5 percent year-to-date; and Express — currently undergoing an overhaul in which Express for Men is being integrated into Express for Women stores — was down 3 percent for August but up 5 percent year-to-date.
