Academy Sports + Outdoors (Katy, Texas) plans to open 13-15 stores this year, and up to 140 new stores by the end of 2027. The sporting goods and outdoor recreation retailer disclosed those numbers in a news release on the opening of its latest store, in Lafayette, Ind.

Founded in 1938 as a family business in Texas, Academy now has 269 stores across 18 states. Its latest one – the brand’s fourth in Indiana – has 60,000 square feet of space housing sports and outdoors merchandise. It opens April 21.

“Academy Sports + Outdoors is excited to provide the Lafayette community with a destination that makes pursuing their sports and outdoors passions easy and affordable,” said Sam Johnson, Academy’s Executive VP of Retail Operations. “Whether you’re an outdoor enthusiast gearing up for a hunting trip, a family looking to grill in the backyard, or a [Purdue] Boilermaker fan getting ready for the spring football game this weekend, our great value and services encourage customers to get active.”
