American Apparel (Los Angeles), the vertically integrated clothing manufacturer, has opened a 3000-square-foot store in Victoria, B.C., on Lower Johnson Street. Located in a renovated site, the store’s design was inspired by archival photos of the building's original look and includes a new storefront that reflects the neighborhood's art and local scene.

“We were very set on having our only store in Victoria on this street [Lower Johnson] as opposed to the malls or another more commercial street,” says Dan Abenhaim, American Apparel's Canadian operations manager. “We wanted this to be convenient to the loyal customers who had been driving all the way to Vancouver to shop at American Apparel.”

The Victoria store offers American Apparel's staple basic t-shirts, sweatshirts and underwear, as well as some new product categories for the winter season, including wool coats, ear muffs, scarves and gloves.

“The first American Apparel store in the world opened in Montreal almost 6 years ago to the day and we couldn't be happier to finally be in Victoria,” says Marsha Brady, a creative director for American Apparel.

American Apparel operates more than 275 retail stores in 20 countries, including the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Brazil, the U.K., Ireland, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Israel, Australia, Japan, South Korea and China.
