In an effort to develop its Latin American market, Benetton Group (Milan) has signed an agreement with Sears Mexico to expand the United Colors of Benetton (UCB) brand in Mexico.

Under the agreement, UCB will offer women’s, men’s and children’s collections at 250 stores and sales points in Mexico by 2010. Some will be located in Sears department stores, while others will be through partnerships with other local retailers. Sears is part of Mexican conglomerate Grupo Carso.

Benetton, which receives most of its sales from Italy and Western Europe, has identified five key regions to expand its presence, including India, Turkey, the former Soviet Union, Latin America and China.

The Italian retail company will also open a headquarters in Miami to monitor the market and identify business opportunities in the Americas, as well as establish a sourcing hub to serve the area.
