The Bombay Co. (Fort Worth, Texas) announced a 26 percent increase in same-store sales for its second quarter, ended Aug. 2, 2003, and a 24 percent increase for the month of July.

Total revenue increased 30 percent in the quarter.

For the 26 weeks ended August 2, same-store sales increased 25 percent and total revenue increased 31 percent.

“July sales exceeded our expectations, with our strongest weeks falling in second half of the month,” said chairman and ceo. James Carreker. “Our strategy of driving sales of fashion-right product at very competitive prices continues to result in strong sales increases as we seek to reclaim market share.

“Our enhanced marketing program, which during July included newspaper and direct mail promotions, generated increased traffic and a higher average ticket,” Carreker continued. “All regions of the United States and Canada reported double-digit same store sales increases. Both furniture and non-furniture sales grew at double-digit rates.”

The Bombay Company designs, sources and markets home accessories, wall décor and furniture through 421 retail outlets, specialty catalogs and the Internet in the U.S. and internationally.
