The Cato Corp. (Charlotte, N.C.) has announced that its 1000th store will open on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, in the Citadel Mall in Charleston, S.C.

President, vice chairman and ceo John Cato will cut the ribbon.

“The opening of our 1000th store is another milestone in a period of unprecedented growth for Cato over the last six years,” Cato said. “We have added 345 stores since the beginning of 1997. It is noteworthy that this landmark store is in Charleston, so close to where our company built its foundations. The company opened its first two stores in Sumter and Mullins, S.C., on the same day in 1946. This will be the Company's sixth store in the greater Charleston area.”

Cato, a specialty retailer of value-priced women's fashion, operates two divisions, Cato and It's Fashion!
