Northlake Mall (Charlotte, N.C.), a 1.1 million-square-foot enclosed shopping center developed by Taubman Centers Inc. (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.), will open this weekend. It is Taubman’s first North Carolina development.

The new mall features five anchors stores — Belk (180,000 square feet), Dillard’s (180,000 square feet), Hecht’s (165,000 square feet), Dick’s Sporting Goods (79,000 square feet) and a 14-screen AMC movie megaplex — and 145 specialty shops.

There’s also the nation’s first indoor Looney Tunes children’s play area, an Internet access area and a dedicated sports court with large-screen TVs for viewing sporting events.
