Charming Shoppes Names New Head of Outlets Division

Charming Shoppes Inc. (Bensalem, Pa.) has named MaryEllen MacDowell president of its Charming Outlets division. She succeeds Jeffrey Elliott, who has left the specialty retailer  “to pursue another career opportunity,” according to a company statement.

 MacDowell will have leadership responsibility for the company's Lane Bryant Outlet and Petite Sophisticate Outlet chains, reporting to Joseph Baron, Charming Shoppes’ executive vp and chief operating officer.

MacDowell had been senior vp and general merchandise manager of apparel and accessories at the Lane Bryant brand since 2007. Prior that, she was vp and divisional merchandise manager for plus sportswear, dresses and swimwear for the company's Fashion Bug brand. MacDowell has also been an executive-level merchant for the Federated Merchandising Group, Lord & Taylor, Filene's, Wm. H. Block and Jordan Marsh.

Charming Shoppes operates 2344 retail stores in 48 states under the Lane Bryant, Fashion Bug, Fashion Bug Plus, Catherines Plus Sizes, Lane Bryant Outlet and Petite Sophisticate Outlets nameplates.
