David Shove-Brown Appointed to Washington Architectural Foundation Board

Studio3877’s Co-Founder and Principal Accepts Nomination to Join the WAF Board of Directors

January 14th, 2014一Washington, D.C.一After being nominated to join the Washington Architectural Foundation’s Board of Directors, David Shove-Brown, AIA, NCARB, has accepted a two-year term on the board. Shove-Brown will serve as one of nine architects, along with six public sector members who represent the local building and development industry, local housing and social service nonprofits, and arts organizations in Washington, D.C.

Shove-Brown, co-founder and principal of design and architecture firm Studio3877, has been involved with the Washington Architectural Foundation throughout his career. He has served as Project Manager for the Schools Library Project, and has lectured on methods of introducing architecture in the classroom. For two years, he also volunteered at the Incarcerated Youth Program, where he worked with students on architecture-based projects that connected to their math, science, and art curriculum. In 2008, the WAF awarded Shove-Brown the John “Wieb” Wiebenson Award for Architecture in the Public Interest, which recognizes architects who use design for a greater good by working with pro bono clients, participating in community outreach, and contributing their knowledge and efforts to public architectural education.

As a partner of Studio3877, Shove-Brown and his firm have continued to cultivate the Washington, D.C. community through their projects. The firm’s recently completed work includes local projects such as Matchbox 14th Street, [solidcore] Studio, Glen’s Garden Market, and Capitale as well as concepts for Marriott’s new hotel brand, Moxy. With projects spanning the hospitality, commercial, and residential markets, the firm also has extensive experience in sustainability, renovation, and the preservation of historical buildings.

In line with his strong commitment to serving the Washington, D.C. community, Shove-Brown is looking forward to serving on the WAF Board of Directors. “I want to push for architects to do more for their local communities than simply design and build,” says Shove-Brown. “As architects, we have a unique skill set and with the opportunity of being in a city with large disparities in income, education, and housing, we have to give back.”
