Delia’s Inc. (New York) has named retailer veteran Tracy Gardner as its chief executive officer and member of its board.

For the past year, Gardner served as creative advisor to Gap Inc. (San Francisco). She was with J. Crew Group Inc. (New York) from 2004 to 2010, most recently as president of retail and direct. Earlier in her career she held senior merchandising roles at The Gap and Banana Republic and at Lands’ End (Dodgeville, Wis.). She joined Delia's earlier this year as chief creative officer.

Delia’s, a multi-channel retail company marketing to teens and young women, said Gardner will focus on the branding, merchandising and creative functional areas. She is replacing Walter Killough, who has agreed to serve as coo, providing oversight on operations, finance and other areas of the business during the transition.

Michael Zimmerman has been named chairman of the board, replacing Carter Evans, who will remain on the board.
