Dollar General (Goodlettsville, Tenn.) plans to focus on targeting food deserts with stores that offer groceries. The retailer’s food market concept was put on hold in 2008. Ceo Rick Dreiling recently told investors that the market store push soon will resume, reports The Tennessean.

The food concept carries traditional items such as home goods and apparel in addition to frozen foods, dairy, meat and other grocery products.

The company operates 62 Dollar General Market stores in nine states with 40 more planned in 2012.
