Dollar General (Goodlettsville, Tenn.) is increasing its new store openings and remodeling/renovations during its 2009 fiscal year by a total of 100 stores. The discount retailer had previously announced plans to open 450 new stores and update 400 more for the year, but has now increased those numbers to 500 and 450, respectively.
Dollar General revealed those higher numbers in its second quarter earnings statement, during which it saw its profit more than triple and same-store sales increase by 8.6 percent.
“Our financial results continue to reflect our customers’ positive response to the changes we are making in our stores and are evidence of our ability to grow,” said chairman and ceo Rick Dreiling. “As always, we remain focused on offering convenience and value through a combination of convenient store locations, a time-saving shopping experience and everyday low prices on quality national and private brand selections of basic merchandise.”
