Dooney & Bourke, Macau, China

Nautical-inspired details and rich materials set sail in China.

Yachts have always been an inspiration for Peter Dooney, the designer and owner of the luxury leather goods label Dooney & Bourke. For the company’s 2300-square-foot store in Macau’s Grand Canal Shoppes, New York-based design firm Jeffrey Hutchison & Associates (JHA) sought to reflect that inspiration through a highly sculptural yacht-like environment.

At the entry, curved walls molded out of wood slats provide a rich backdrop to display the bags. That same sculptural, dark wood accents long, uplit shelves within the space to continue the sleek, yacht feel.

Luxurious materials, including antiqued bronze, lacquer, cherry wood, travertine floors and Venetian plaster, pay homage to the brand’s dedication to quality and details, such as special stitching and hardware.
