Duane Reade’s newest 24-hour store in Chelsea features a 40 percent larger fresh food and grocery offering, including single-serve entrees, fresh produce, bagged salads and packaged celery and carrots, and fresh deli meats. The retailer says it’s testing the fresh food and grocery concept and may roll it out to other select locations.

The 15,000-square-foot, two-level Chelsea store also offers breakfast items, such as fresh-cut fruit, baked goods and self-serve Starbucks coffee, as well as more than 500 SKUs of frozen convenience items. The New York’s company’s private label DR Delish food and beverage brand will also be prominently featured inside the store, along with a larger array of organic grocery items.

Rival Walgreens is looking to acquire Duane Reade’s 250-plus stores in a deal valued at $1.08 billion.
