Eddie Bauer Debuts Ice Box

In-store sub-zero experience

Published

on

Eddie Bauer (Bellevue, Wash.) has opened a new flagship store in Bellevue, Wash., that features a throwback to the store’s heritage: An 8-foot-by-8-foot “Ice Box” that accommodates temperatures to negative 20 degrees allows customers to test drive the retailer’s products in the most inclement of weather.

The retailer came up with the concept after discovering photographs that showed employees from the 1950s testing gear in a cold storage locker. The founder was known to even sleep in the storage locker overnight to test the company’s parkas and sleeping bags.

Currently, the Ice Box is exclusive to the Bellevue location, which opened September 18, reports Puget Sound Business Journal.
