Filene's Will Step Into Old Lord & Taylor Store in Massachusetts

Expansion of space at Emerald Square mall will begin in May

The May Department Stores Co. (St. Louis) has announced it will expand its Filene's store at Emerald Square (North Attleboro, Mass.) into the space currently occupied by Lord & Taylor.

That Lord & Taylor store, one of 32 locations May Co. announced last year it would shut, is expected to close April 3, 2004. Following the closing, the interior of the former Lord & Taylor space will be completely remodeled, beginning in May with a spring 2005 completion expected. The current Filene's store also will be remodeled, with work beginning in spring 2005 and completing in spring 2006.

The expansion will allow Filene's to expand its offering of Home store merchandise and men's furnishings and apparel. The new Home store will be located on the lower level and Filene's will add a furniture department for the first time at Emerald Square (situated roughly midway between Boston and Providence, R.I.). Combined, the Filene's stores will total approximately 275,000 square feet of retail space.
