Duo forms Illumination Arts LLC; Hat World being acquired; Shea teams with Tiffany & Co. for Minnesota store

Illumination Arts LLC (Bloomfield, N.J., architectural lighting design firm) has been formed by Faith Baum and Kenneth Douglas.

Watkins Hamilton Ross Architects Inc. (Houston architectural firm) has promoted Charles Griffin to senior principal.

RPA (Columbus, Ohio, retail experience agency) has hired Rebecca Charnon, associate environmental director; Michele Collins, IT service technician; Melissa Fostyk, manager of business development; and Keri Kaminski, visual presentation merchandiser.

Vanguard Construction & Development Co. (New York construction company) has hired Norman Rijo as an account executive.

BHDP Architecture (Cincinnati architectural firm) has promoted the following to associate: Christopher Hagan, Cynthia Jackson and George Kemper.

New World Restaurant Group Inc. (Golden, Colo., fast-food company) has named S. Garrett Stonehouse to its board of directors. Stonehouse is co-founder and partner of MCG Global LLC.


Mergers/Acquisitions:


Genesco Inc. (Nashville, Tenn., footwear and accessories retailer) has signed a definitive agreement to purchase Hat World Corp. (Indianapolis headwear retailer) for $165 million. Also, Hat World has announced a licensing agreement with Mainland Headwear Holdings Ltd. (Buji, China, designer and manufacturer of casual headwear) to open headwear stores in Hong Kong and China.

Store Openings/Contracts:


Shea Inc. (Minneapolis design firm) is the architect of record for the Tiffany & Co. store that will open this summer in the Galleria Shopping Center in Edina, Minn. The store will be Tiffany's first in Minnesota.

relish (Washington, D.C., apparel retailer) will open a second location this spring, in Georgetown's Cady Alley. The two-level, 6500-square-foot space, which will offer women's apparel and menswear, is being designed by John Stedila of Stedila Design, New York.

Business Briefs:


Hornall Anderson Design Works (HADW, Seattle design firm) has completed a branding project for a new specialty coffee retailer, TerraVida. The program consisted of identity, packaging, merchandising collateral and retail store interiors. HADW teamed with GGLO Architects of Seattle for the interior designs.

Fifield Inc. (Hingham, Mass., textile company) will celebrate its 80th anniversary on March 7. Fifield specializes in fabrics for displays and packaging.

Ideal.com (Rockville, Md., provider of scanning services for drawings and documents) has upgraded its web site, www.ideal.com, offering a more user-friendly format and additional product information.
