Lamina Ceramics (Westampton, N.J., developer of LED light engines) has appointed Frank Shinneman president and ceo.

Boston Retail (Medford, Mass., provider of display, power and protection solutions for retail environments) has hired Jay Rensink as its Midwest territory sales manager.

ICI Design & Construction (Toronto) is the new name of ICI Construction. Also, the company has appointed Noah Shopsowitz, executive vp, design development services.

SmithGroup PLLC (Detroit, architecture and engineering firm) has opened its 10th U.S. office, in Raleigh-Durham, N.C.

Charley’s Grilled Subs® (Columbus, Ohio, sandwich restaurant franchise) has opened its 300th location at Branson Landing in Branson, Mo.

Business Briefs:

The Juice Corp. (Sheffield, U.K., provider of interactive virtual reality solutions for retail) has partnered with Miller Zell Inc. (Atlanta design firm) to open its first U.S. office within MillerZell’s building.

Mohawk Group, The (Kennesaw, Ga., carpet manufacturer) announced that several of its products have achieved the Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) Sustainable Choice Platinum and Gold/Environmentally Preferable Product (EPP) certification.

PlayNetwork Inc. (Redmond, Wash., media services provider) was ranked 20th in the list of fastest-growing Pacific Northwest companies in Deloitte’s Technology Fast 50 Program. The report, published by Deloitte & Touche USA LLP, recognizes companies within the technology, telecommunications and life sciences fields.

(Elizabeth, N.J., retailer-owned supermarket cooperative) was awarded the Food Marketing Institute’s (FMI) 2006 Maximizing People Potential Award for its “Partners in Training” cashier-training and placement program.
