Massive new flagship opens in New York

Fast-fashion retailer Forever 21 unveils its latest store today in New York’s Times Square. Taking over the former home of the Virgin Megastore at 1540 Broadway, the Forever 21 space boasts 91,000 square feet and houses 151 dressing rooms and 32 cash registers.

The store represents the retailer’s efforts in tailoring apparel and presentation to the local market. While Forever 21’s Cerritos, Calif., store appeals to its Southern California culture with whimsical and bright merchandise and styling, the New York locale houses graffiti tagged yellow taxis and store-within-store shops modeled after neighborhoods within the city. For instance, the men’s area features exposed brick and hanging scales, a homage to the Meatpacking District.

With the opening, Forever 21 joins neighbors MAC and the soon-to-open Disney store as the latest retail giants to light up Times Square.
