Formica® Brand Magnetic Markerboard: A Beautiful, Functional Surface for Capturing Ideas and Sharing Communications

Published

on

Huddle spaces, idea generation labs and information hubs are all the rage in both new office construction and renovation as corporations seek design solutions for improving employee collaboration and productivity. Formica Corporation addresses this trend by introducing its newest high-pressure laminate, Formica® Brand Magnetic Markerboard.

Formica® Brand Magnetic Markerboard high-pressure laminate features a durable, high-gloss dry erase surface over an iron foil to give it magnetic qualities. Combining the dual functions of dry erase board and magnetic bulletin board into one beautiful surface, Formica® Brand Magnetic Markerboard is a practical and stylish addition to office meeting and training rooms, school classrooms and other working environments. Formica® Brand Magnetic Markerboard is available in 3091 Crystal White and 7927 Gray.

“Collaborative environments are in demand and here to stay,” said Gerri Chmiel, senior design manager for Formica Corporation. “To address this design direction, we’re thinking beyond the worktop and offering designers a beautiful-yet-functional vertical surface created specifically to foster communication. It’s a timely addition to our suite of laminate products.”

The need for collaborative spaces isn’t just a trend identified by Formica Corporation. According to the June 2014 Interior Design 2014 Outlook and State of the Industry Report produced by the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), interior designers will see continued demand for office touchdown spaces to facilitate communication, information sharing and innovation. And, HOK’s June 2014 Top 10 Trends Influencing Workplace Design notes: “activity-based work settings are on the rise … Workplace designers need to provide a variety of ‘activity-settings’ or purpose-built areas for specific activities accessible to all.” In addition to individual work spaces, these settings include impromptu meeting areas, formal meeting spaces and project rooms.

Think this trend is just for the office?  Think again!  As the kitchen expands its role beyond food prep to family command center and work station, designers are creating spaces that help households organize school activities, shopping lists and chores.  In fact, in the National Kitchen and Bath Association’s most recent Design Trends Survey of kitchen and bath professionals, two-thirds of respondents incorporated a desk or home office area in their clients’ kitchens.

Formica® Brand Magnetic Markerboard is priced $6 – $7 per square foot uninstalled and is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) certified. More information can be found at www.formica.com.
