Insiders say search giant plans to open stores

Google is planning to enter the retail arena with its first stores, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing “people familiar with the matter.” With Apple stores now famously successful, and Microsoft stores hoping to mimic Apple’s record-setting profits, the Journal says Google might be looking to grab its share of profits with branded hardware.

A previous attempt, in 2010, by the company to open a bricks-and-mortar location was unsuccessful.
