Deal includes “core stores”

Published

on

Following the Albertsons (Boise, Idaho) acquisition of 36 Haggen (Bellingham, Wash.) stores last fall, Albertsons is now buying 29 additional Haggen properties. The stores include locations in Washington and Oregon that Haggen has called its “core stores.”

The Seattle Times reports that Albertsons will pay a base $106 million, which is subject to adjustments. The deal will be settled by a Delaware bankruptcy court which is managing the dismantling of Haggen.

The move follow’s Haggen’s ambitious expansion plan for the Southwest U.S. Some additional stores not included in the sale have announced they will go out of business or layoff staff.
