Rawson Haverty resigns – is the grandson of the founder

Rawson Haverty, chairman of Havery Furniture Cos. (Atlanta), has informed the board of directors that he will stand down as chairman as of Jan. 1, 2001, though he will continue to serve on the board. Clarence H. Ridley, the vice chairman, will leave his full-time position as a partner of the King & Spalding law firm to assume Haverty's chairmanship.

Haverty, 79, has been with the company – founded by his grandfather in 1885 – since 1930. He was president and ceo from 1955 to 1984, chairman and ceo from 1984 to 1990, and has been chairman since 1990. Ridley, 58, has served on the Haverty's board for 17 years, the last four as vice-chairman.
