H&M’s COS Coming to the U.S.

H&M Hennes & Mauritz (Stockholm) is planning to roll out its COS brand in the U.S.

The younger, slightly higher-priced, concept is reportedly debuting in New York’s SoHo neighborhood in the spring, after successful growth in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

The brand had an initial pop-up test earlier this month in the Opening Ceremony retail installation in New York. H&M head of business Marie Honda told Women’s Wear Daily that COS – described as an “upscale, minimalist and cosmopolitan” brand – will target U.S. cities “that have an international feel.”

The U.S. has “been on our wish list for some time,” Atul Pathak, COS’s head of marketing and communications, told the Wall Street Journal, but “this can often take time.”

COS currently has 75 stores around the world, with 40 more planned for 2014.
