Albertson’s Inc. (Boise, Idaho) announced it has completed the acquisition of JS USA Holdings Inc. (New Bridgewater, Mass.), which operates 204 Shaw’s and Star Markets stores in New England. With the addition of Shaw’s, Albertsons will have over 2500 stores in 37 states.

“Shaw’s excellent reputation with New England consumers and its position of Number One or Two in each of its major markets will complement and enhance the Albertsons family of world-class grocery banners,” Albertsons president, chairman and ceo Larry Johnston.

Albertsons has identified estimated cost synergies from the Shaw’s transaction to be between $100 and $125 million in fiscal year 2006.

Paul Gannon will remain ceo and president of Shaw’s and will report directly to Johnston. Shaw’s and Star Market stores will continue to operate under their current banners and the headquarters will remain in New Bridgewater.
